Risk Management Plan

These are some of the risks associated with this project identified so far, together with a preliminar assess of their impact on the project success. It is also proposed here possible response plans for the risks.

Identified Risk Description
Chance of Occurance (Low/Medium/High) Impact (Low/Medium/High)
Mitigation Strategy
Cancellation of contract

Cancellation of contracts established with partner institutions, project manager, evaluator and symposium faciltator can occur at any time for various reasons.

If this occurs the project team will search for a substitute partner or project manager or evaluator or symposium faciltator to adequately meet the project needs.

ALTC Funding Cancellation ALTC can cancel its funds to the project at any time Medium High

Without the finantial support from ALTC the project team has not other option rather than stopping conducting this project. To some extent, dissemination of findings can still occur with not funds.

Study Leave / Long Service Leave

Most project team members are academics and are suject to study leave and/or long service leave over the two-year period of this project.

In the absence of a team member for more than 6 months due to study leave and/or long service leave, the member is responsible for appointing a colleague to undertake his/her project activities. Otherwise, the remaining members will re-arrange the activities amongst themselves.

Budget overrun

Project expenses exceeding the budget.

Re-plan the budget and make the appropriate ajustments, including cuts.

Activities overrun
Time allocated for the acoomplishment of project activities exceeding the predictions.

Re-plan the project activities and make the appropriate ajustments.

Health Problem / Accident

Health problems and accidents can affect not only project members, but also their family members and we should consider this as another risk.

If this occurance affects a project member for longer than 6 months, the member is responsible for appointing a colleague to undertake his/her project activities. Otherwise, the remaining members will re-arrange the activities amongst themselves.

New job allocation This can occur with any project member during the two-year period.

For academics: if a partner changes institution, he/she will be able to take the project with him/her, including the money. As long as the new institution agrees with the reallocation and that it is an institution regonised by ALTC.

As for other members (project manager and facilitator), the team will have to search for a substitute.

Low survey reponse

Low survey response rates can impact substancially on the project objectives and outcomes by not gaining enough representation from the sector.

The research team will need to discuss and develop new strategies to collect the data, for example:

  • Send the survey to a broader group of participants
  • Send the survey to professional networks of team members and communities of practice
  • Replace this data collection instrument
Low number of interview participants

The risk above can affect this one. Survey participants will be invited to be interviewed. By ticking a box in the survey they agree to be contacted for the interview. If they survey had low response rates, this will consequently affect the number of participants interested in being interview.

Data collection, analysis and representativeness will be also affected in this case. The research team will have to find alternatives methods and solutions for this problem. Potential solutions could be:

  • Re-send the survey
  • Contact potential interview participants individually, despite the fact that they did not responde to the survey
  • Contact potential interview participants who did not receive the survey at the first place
  • Invite international participants
Data analysis sotfware unavailable

NVivo was the qualitative software chosen to assist the researchers in conducting the data analysis. Lack of time and finantial resources to acquiring the skills needed to undertake the analysis could represent another risk.

Team members will need to discuss alternative to solve this problem. Amongst the alternatives are:

  • Find a software to replace NVivo, such as an open source software at a lower or no cost
  • Analyse the data manually
Symposium attendance

Low attendance and lack of participants commitment with the symposium. Both situations represent risks and could effect the project objective and outcomes substantially.

RSVP will be requested from participants. The decision of coducting the symposium will be made according the the number of participants. Without the symposium, the project Objective 3 will compromised. The research team will need to decide alternative ways to get stakeholders feedback on the draft of the Feasibility Protocol.
